I'm inviting anyone interested to follow along as I attempt to qualify for the 2013 US Open at Merion.
This blog will consist entirely of my personal notes as it pertains to my training, both physical (gym physical therapy mental) as well as what I'm working on to improve my game.
Basically this is going to be my notebook, the notebook of an injury plagued golfer with an obsession to play in one of the grandest tournaments in the world of golf while attempting to balance a full time job and quality family time with my wife and 2 sons.
A little about me ( the distant past is the distant past and will remain that way), I'm just a 34 year guy who has been married for 5 years this summer with the 2 greatest sons anyone could ask for ( thats all the personal info that will ever be posted here by me) work full time in the communications field (no 2 minutes are ever the same let alone any 2 days) filled with long hours and more stress created by me than there probably should be; shoot me I'm a worrier. I didn't really start playing golf until I was 18 or so when I took a summer job at the local course after my freshman year of college and was instantly hooked on the game. I worked my way up from being the kid who bar backed and cleaned up around the club house to pretty much running the pro shop and outings. Loved those days played golf every chance that I could. Living in New Jersey lets just say the golf industry isn't the ideal career if you're about to get married and want to start a family. I left the business but never the game.
If you were to ask anyone who's known for more than 5 minutes they'd easily tell you I'm one of the most injury prone individuals they have ever met ( my belief now is it's only pain). I've had both of my shoulders operated on over the past 3 years and it looks like I'm heading that way with my right hip. This are the most notable injuries but I could easily sit here writing for hours detailing my various injuries that have interupted or forced me to just stop playing for atleast a month.
The hip injury is the most troubling because it could derail this whole process but I'm going for it, the only way I won't play in an Open Qualifier in 2013 is if they strap me down and amputate my leg.
Needless to say my game is rusty and due certain personal circumstances since my most recent surgery ( November 09) my game is pretty rusty and I haven't had the time to work on my game in a fashion I deem acceptable.
That all changes tomorrow morning, I'm playing a round with 3 retired guys ( my schedule sucks it only really allows me to play with the senior citizen crowd, but it's a great way to learn patience on the course). After the round I'll return to my 'notebook' and head into the lab and get the game to where it needs to be.
Thanks to anyone who reads this if you've got anything to say any questions to ask please don't hesitate
